Incredibly well carved of walnut in the 1890's, this Jester cabinet celebrates the role of a royal jester, the only member of the court who could say anything and speak honestly to a king without fear of retribution. The quality, realism, and detail of the stellar carving is shown in jester figures, heads, a dragon and a wine cellar dancing scene with perspective.
It is built of solid walnut, and the original warm satiny brown finish is remarkably intact. We could see a dented nose on one head between the center and right drawers, other than that, this cabinet is in remarkable original condition. There are a few mars around the base, otherwise it is almost hard to believe that this piece is well over 100 years old. The drawers have hand dovetailed oak sides, and this piece disassembles for moving.
There are numerous display galleries, and the heavy cast brasses are original. The upper curved canopy is especially well designed. This cabinet is really a find in terms of both quality and condition. It is about 9'10" tall, 5'9" wide and 24" deep. J-C2664
